Assimilation
Day by day
They strip away
P I E C E by P I E C E
L I T T L E by L I T T L E
Who I am is being overrun
Away from MY tribal life
MY family
MY clothes
My language
MY food
MY rights!
I long to dance under the sun
To feel its warm rays on my body
Im spiralling downwards
To a depth so deep
unfathomable
desolate
bottomless
barren
cavernous
unforgiving
sinister
As I fall, I try to scream but I dont make a sound
Even if I did, they wouldnt hear it
In the hands of my enemies
They took everything I have and now
they are taking who I am
Is it possible to take away from someone, what they are?
So far away from my family
Residential schools
Aggressive civilization
I want to be apart
I long to dance under the moon and stars
O v e r w h e l m M e
What creature am I of this?
Alive?
Dead?
A sickness?
What is it that you see me as?
Humanity? What has it become? Was it always like this?
Does it change by your view, on who is considered human?
Less then a human?
A monster?
Are You Afraid Of Us?
Stared me down with a mocking visage
taunting
scornful
cutting
Assimilation:
Extinguish the noise
But the evil echoes still
